Women's Health Q& A

What women’s health services are available?

Girls and women have the opportunity to work closely with Dr. Kumar in every stage of life through the women’s health services available at Himalaya Family Medicine Clinic.

Dr. Kumar offers preventive screenings, diagnostics, and education to ensure overall good health. Available women’s health services include:

  • Well-check visits
  • Nutrition education
  • Annual pelvic exams

Dr. Kumar also provides on-site testing for sexually transmitted disease (STD) and comprehensive treatment to protect your reproductive and general health.

What happens during my initial women’s health care visit?

Women’s health care exams start with a review of your health history. Dr. Kumar discusses any concerns or questions you have about your reproductive health and performs a routine physical exam and a pelvic exam.

During your pelvic exam, Dr. Kumar assesses the health of your reproductive system. He examines each structure and collects samples of cervical cells during a Pap test to identify cell changes that may indicate cancer. Dr. Kumar can also perform screenings for STDs.

What’s involved in STD screenings?

At Himalaya Family Medicine Clinic, you can receive discreet, on-site testing for a number of common sexually transmitted diseases.

Dr. Kumar performs a physical examination of any noticeable symptoms, like genital warts, and orders blood work or other testing methods for diseases like:

  • Herpes
  • Syphilis
  • Hepatitis
  • Gonorrhea
  • Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)
  • Chlamydia

Dr. Kumar offers comprehensive treatment for sexually transmitted diseases and also provides STD prevention education to protect your reproductive health.

When should I begin women’s health exams?

Dr. Kumar recommends routine women’s health evaluations for all sexually active women. He also encourages visits with younger family members to help them feel comfortable with annual visits and ensure they have the tools they need to make the right decisions for their health.

Younger females receive guidance and information about menstruation, sexual health, nutrition, and STD prevention. Dr. Kumar can discuss when younger girls should begin routine pelvic exams based on age, medical history, and other factors that influence their reproductive health.
